DSSC Description

Data products bundle a set of resources (e.g., data sets and data services) into a consumable form to provide meaningful business value in data space use cases. Data products comply with a data product specification and are part of one or more data product offerings. Data product offerings describe the data product, its allowed purposes of use, quality and other requirements the data product fulfils, pricing and billing information, and other contractual details.

Data products can be used and combined to create value in the use cases. The same data product can be used in several use cases, potentially leading to network effects of the data space. Data products can be combined, and used also as part of other type of value-added services.

This building block provides the data space initiatives with an understanding of data products, their related concepts, and their benefits from the business perspective. Data spaces without a well-established strategy for data product management face the risk of hindered scaling, lost business opportunities, and more complex and fragmented governance mechanisms. Therefore, this building block suggests the data space initiatives to develop guidelines for the data space participants in productising resources and creating data product offerings, governance rules for the data products, and to consider triggering the network effects between data providers and recipients by priority onboarding of key data products.
